Our History
Over 40 Years Supporting the Ice Rink Industry
The company’s origins can be traced back even further. The Marshall family has been involved in supplying specialist machinery since 1921, providing over a century of engineering heritage and customer service. In 1984, Lindsay Marshall recognised the growing demand for specialist ice rink equipment and sold the company’s first ice resurfacer, laying the foundations for what would become Marshalls International.
Marshalls International has been at the forefront of the ice rink industry since 1984, supplying specialist equipment, technical expertise and practical solutions to operators across the UK and around the world.
Over the following decades, Lindsay established the business as one of the UK’s leading suppliers of ice rink equipment, earning a reputation for quality products, technical knowledge and exceptional customer support. As the industry evolved, Marshalls International expanded its product portfolio and developed relationships with many of the world’s leading manufacturers, allowing customers access to the latest innovations in ice resurfacing, maintenance equipment and arena infrastructure.
“A significant milestone came when Phil Waite joined the business as Managing Director. Bringing extensive operational and commercial experience, Phil played a key role in strengthening the company’s reputation, expanding its customer base and developing Marshalls International into a trusted partner for rink operators throughout the UK and internationally.
In 2021, the business entered a new chapter when Mark Johnson purchased Phil Waite’s shareholding and became Managing Director and shareholder alongside Lindsay Marshall. Mark brought over three decades of experience within the ice rink industry, having built, operated and managed numerous ice arenas throughout the UK before joining Marshalls International. His practical background in rink operations, combined with Lindsay’s engineering heritage, has enabled the company to continue evolving while remaining true to its customer-focused values.
Today, Marshalls International supports more than 150 ice rinks worldwide, working with facilities across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and beyond.
What sets Marshalls International apart is that we are far more than an equipment supplier. Our team has built new ice rinks, refurbished existing facilities, managed major arena projects and operated some of the UK’s busiest ice venues. This operational experience allows us to understand the day-to-day challenges faced by rink operators and provide practical solutions that improve efficiency, reduce downtime and enhance ice quality.
Our expertise has supported major venues including the National Ice Centre Nottingham, Sheffield Arena and Planet Ice locations nationwide, alongside numerous international installations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. We continue to invest in innovative products that help facilities improve sustainability, reduce operating costs and deliver exceptional ice conditions.
More than forty years after supplying our first ice resurfacer, Marshalls International remains committed to providing industry-leading equipment, trusted technical advice and long-term after-sales support. As a family-founded business with generations of engineering heritage and a management team built on real operational experience, we continue to help shape the future of ice rink operations around the world.
